»Despite a decrease in the number of building permissions given in the last year, there was an increase in the number of prefabricated houses.«
The members of the FELU Alumni Club went on 29 May to Hrib, Preddvor, to see the production of low energy and passive houses Jelovica.
The environmental awareness and sustainability of the company is shown by it’s energetic independence. The heating is secured by the usage of wooden leftovers and the electric energy is provided by photovoltaic panels, which are on the roof of the factory.
Ferdinand Žefran, the production manager in Jelovica Hiše Ltd, states that Germany, Switzerland and Italy are the most important markets. The company produces in average 130 houses a year, most of them are built according to individual wishes of different customers. He also adds: »Despite a decrease in the number of building permissions given in the last year, there was an increase in the number of prefabricated houses.« Because of that he still sees a lot of opportunities for the development of the company.
»This is the most modern kindergarten 500 km around, even Austrians come here to see it.«
After the inspection of the production the participants went to see the passive-built kindergarten in Preddvor. Gregor Benčina, the chairman of the managing committee of Jelovica PLC: »The municipality first wanted a low energy building, but with the possibility to get a subsidy from the ECO Fund, we convinced them to invest into a passive construction.« The building is very good isolated (40 cm of wall- and 44 cm of ceiling-isolation), it has a central ventilation system and photovoltaic panels, which provide the electricity that is needed. According to the words of the chairman of the managing committee is this »the most modern kindergarten 500 km around, even Austrians are come here to see it.«
»We Slovenians already have two wooden petrol stations!«
During a pleasant non-formal meeting, Sebastijan Lubej, the development manager in Petrol PLC, suggested to Gregor Benčina to build a wooden petrol station in Slovenia. Benčina explained that we already have two – one in Gorenja vas and the other in Jagodje (near Izola).
There was a lot of positive reactions about the visit and there was a big interest in the field in which the company works. Tomaž Lanišek, Goodyear Dunlop Sava Tires Ltd.: »I definitely welcome the initiative to visit this company! You don’t have the possibility to come in such a factory every day. It is even more interesting if we look deeper into the field of sustainable development in which the company is working!«
