Portorož Business Conference 2016
On November 17th and 18th 2016, Business Conference Portorož held its place already 18th year in a row. It is traditionally a central business event in Slovenia, a joint project of its main organizers, Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana and Slovenian Business Daily Finance. It represents an intensive and pragmatic transaction of the newest business knowledge into action for the best business practice in the Central and SE Europe.
Business Conference Portorož plays a very important role within IMB programme, as well as IMB programme contributes to the conference’s content with providing a fresh new research on a relevant topic. IMB director, Janez Prašnikar, PhD, is also programme director of the conference. Each year, the last course of a running generation, Joint Research Project, is dedicated to one or two issues, which are at the time crucial for global marketplace. The 23rd generation of IMB students therefore conducted a thorough project about two topics:
– Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP): interviewing 390 small and medium enterprises, and suggesting some useful implications in terms of predicted effects, which TTIP could bring.
– Global market changes, especially in terms of environmentally friendlier consumer trends: the analysis focused on “smart cities” concept, suggesting introduction of electric buses in Ljubljana.
The conference was enriched by guest speakers, 18 high profile international and domestic experts, such as Stephanie Kelton, professor of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (also US senator Sanderson’s advisor), Martin Sandelin, former Vice-President at Nokia, and Christian Majgaard, former corporate executive vice president at Lego.
