Last week in September 2022, the 29th generation travelled to Germany for their final trip after a year of hard work and dedication. After leaving Ljubljana in the early hours of the morning,  the trip started in Nuremberg on Sunday where students could get to know the city with a city tour in the afternoon.

On Monday, they visited Stabilo where Barbara Bayer and Diana Martin showed the students around the colourful facilities, presented the company and organised a group workshop about Stabilo’s positioning in Slovenia. They were also joined by the CEO of Stabilo, Horst Brinkmann who welcomed them to the company and shared his views on the current state of the company and where he sees Stabilo in the future.

Tuesday was spent visiting Adidas. The students were welcomed by an IMB alum, Luka Vidoni who presented the company and organised lectures on Adidas’ activities in supply chain management and forecasting models in the field of data analytics. Marjana Livk, also an IMB alum, took the students on an extensive tour of the campus so they could see the magnitude of the Adidas operations. After leaving Adidas, the bus took them to Frankfurt where they spent the next three days.

On Wednesday, the day started with a visit to the European Central Bank where they were welcomed by Mauro Baldo. Firstly, he presented the structure and decision-making process of the ECB. Then, he explained how the ECB is tackling the period of elevated inflation. In his presentation, he focused on the two main roles of the ECB, monetary policy for the Eurozone and bank supervision. The day continued with the visit to the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. Joana Rosenkranz and her colleagues prepared a quick introduction to the Frankfurt School which also included a short tour around the school. Students could see how another management master’s program is organised at another school and were able to ask questions about further educational opportunities.

On Thursday, students visited CWS in Neuss, a company owned by Haniel. The 29th generation worked with Haniel as a part of the Strategic Management course in April and Axel Berger, a Haniel representative, shared with the students which strategies the companies decided to implement in the future. Then, Johannes Winterhager,  Regional Managing Director, presented the CWS company and took us around the facilities to see how CWS operates sustainably by renting out working uniforms to companies, collecting them when dirty, cleaning them and sending them back after.

On Friday, they moved from Frankfurt to Stuttgart and visited Kolektor Contekk. The company was acquired by Kolektor in 2017 and is an excellent example of successful restructured company. The students were welcomed by the CEO, Nikola Marjanovic and taken around the highly digitalised and automatised facilities to see the processes of stamping and manufacturing of hybrid components. The day continued in the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart where students could enjoy a fascinating exhibition of German engineering and the history of Mercedes-Benz.

In the name of the 29th generation, we would like to kindly thank the IMB program, especially Polona Domadenik Muren for organising the trip, but also for the whole year before that. We would also like to thank the companies for welcoming us and taking the time to show us their facilities, answer questions and give us an overview of the current state of the German economy.
